STEEPED IN HISTORY

A STATELY FEDERATION LANDMARK

Redhall was built in 1907 for Sir Robert Gillespie, one of the proprietors of Gillespie Brothers and Anchor Flour Mills in Pyrmont, later becoming a Director of the Bank of NSW and CSR. A prominent local identity, he poured his money and influence into Presbyterian schools and hospitals and also founded, endowed and chaired the first Council of Knox Grammar School in 1924.

The Gillespie Playing Fields in Hastings Road were purchased by Knox through generous donations from the Gillespie family and were named in his honour. Gillespie was also Chairman of PLC for 12 years as well as a major sponsor of theological hall facilities of St Andrew’s College, Sydney University.

A SIGNIFICANT LANDHOLDING

7 BEDS | 4.5 BATHS

Set behind ornate wrought iron security gates, Redhall occupies a prominent 4,915m2 parcel of level land with an impressive 70m approx. street frontage. Spanning two generously proportioned levels, the residence offers a wonderfully versatile floor plan. Accommodating up to seven bedrooms, including a vast master suite, it houses the largest of families with ease and privacy.

Impeccably preserved and timelessly elegant, Redhall offers potential to add the contemporary luxuries befitting a property of this stature and significance. Scope also exists to subdivide the property, subject to council approval.

GRAND ENTERTAINING SPACES

ROOM FOR ANY OCCASION

Redhall is blessed with a multitude of entertaining spaces of immense grandeur, harking back to a bygone era. Stately lounge, dining and sitting rooms set the scene for more formal occasions, while a family room is perfect for more casual affairs.

A dine-in stainless steel gas kitchen features twin Ilve ovens and a butler’s pantry, making it perfect for those who love to entertain. A dedicated study has been fitted out with an integrated desk.

MAGNIFICENT FORMAL GARDENS

TENNIS COURT AND POOL

Accessed via a noble circular driveway, the established gardens are dotted with manicured hedges and towering trees, creating a shady, private sanctuary. A north-south tennis court and swimming pool offer plenty of recreational options, while sprawling lawns provide abundant space for the children to run free.

In the 1930s, substantial improvements were made to the grounds, including the creation of the elaborate formal sunken garden inspired by the English gardens of Gertrude Jeckyll design. Sandstone flagged pathways lead to secluded nooks and a soothing water feature while walls of bamboo ensure complete privacy.

LOVINGLY PRESERVED CLASSIC DETAILS

Solid timber panelling and a turned timber staircase bring a stately air to the entry foyer, heralding your arrival. Wide verandahs typical of the era provide a shady, relaxing spot to unwind and survey the grounds.
